The option gives McLaren the opportunity to participate in the championship as one of a maximum of 12 participants for the 2022/23 season.
McLaren Racing is currently excluded from competing as a team in Formula E because its technology division McLaren Applied is the exclusive battery supplier for the series. However, as this contract expires at the end of the 2021/22 season, the team can now consider participating.
McLaren Racing will spend 2021 evaluating the feasibility of entering the series against a set of established criteria before making a decision.
